Quote of the Week

I believe this quote best represents my thoughts this week.  A lot of our own enemies lie within us.  Not outside of us.

One enemy that lies within us is our own personal inadequacies.  This is how we feel about ourselves.  We can be very critical of our own thoughts and actions.  We look back at our life - some of us, multiple times a day, and think, "What have I accomplished or achieved, why am I not where I want to be financially, why am I not as smart as my friend, I can't do what ______ can, what... what is my life?"  We shouldn't create an enemy out of our inadequacies.  We need to focus on what we have accomplished as little as it may seem to us.  Making it to work, earning enough for shelter, food and utilities.  These are all accomplishments.  Then, start thinking about if you had a good conversation with someone.  If you brightened one person's day, by saying, "Hi." to a stranger walking down the street and it made their day better.  That's an accomplishment.

Another enemy we create is when we are too overly concerned about what others are thinking and feeling about our choices and decisions.  We sometimes react to other's beliefs of ourselves before we have our own.  We are running down and endless road of trying to be the person everyone loves and adores; that in the end, isn't even who we are or who we want to be.  It's an illusion.  When we are so worried about everyone else and everyone else's thoughts we never end up listening to ourselves and we end up unhappy.  Most of the time, we don't know why, but it is because we are not being true to ourselves.

Try to:

1.  Focus on your accomplishments - no matter how small they may seem.
2.  Not worry about other people's opinions of you.
